Tactics in collective bargaining

Counter proposal
An alternative proposal made in response to a previous proposal that is regarded as unacceptable or unsatisfactory. For example: if a demand is on wage hike, the management should raise the issue of productivity, workload etc.

Trade-off
It is like compromise. A balance achieved between two desirable but incompatible features. For example: getting paid holiday for flexibility in work rules.

Recess
Recess is used when members in bargaining become fatigued. It is usually a break taken by members for the discussion of some point privately.

Wait and See
When some issues are very troublesome and hard for reaching an agreement then this tactic is used. It is actually no promise to start negotiation again.

Use of mediator
Mediator is an outside specialist who encourages negotiating parties to come to an agreement. Mediator confidentially argue with CBA secretly and technically present logical matters.
