Feudalism and Medival feudal economies



Feudalism was a combination of legal and military customs in medieval Europe that flourished between the 9th and 15th centuries. Broadly defined, it was a way of structuring society around relationships derived from the holding of land in exchange for service or labor.

Medieval feudal economies
  • Long distance spatial relations and interactions between and among the existed nation were rarely seen. 
  • Relations between nations were regional and limited in scope
  • Economy functioned under a feudalistic structure
  • Adoption of changes are slow and slower on town and other areas, because the conception of life which emanated from the dominant social institutions of that time ‘church’
  • Commercial development and industrial activities driven with the help of ‘church’
  • Long-distance interaction occurred during tribal feuds, and territory expansionary wars.
  • Space economy was domestic, local, regional at most.
  • Advance technology played insignificant rule as it remained unveiled.
