Management (Etymology)



Management is the art of knowing what you want to do and then seeing that it is done in the best and cheapest way. Management entails the co-ordination of human effort and material resource toward the organization to achieve its objectives. The objective of the any enterprise is accomplished through the use of resources.
                                                                                             
Management involves an organized effort to achieve the objectives. Management is the brain of the enterprises. Management helps in predicting what is going to happen in future that will influence the working of an enterprise.

Etymology of ‘Manager’ & ‘Management’
The word ‘Manage’ derived from the Italian language ‘maneggiare’ that means to handle, especially tools or a horse. ‘Maneggiare’ derived from two Latin words ‘manus’(hand) and ‘agere’(to act).
Actually the English word ‘Management’ & ‘Manager’ both derived from old French word ’ménagement’ in the 17th & 18th centuries. The French word ’ménagement’ derived from ‘ménagerie’.
During the period of ‘Industrial Revolution’ the term ‘Management’ flourished vastly for managing people who were working in various industries.
