PDCA cycle

PDCA cycle is a repetitive 4 stage model for continuous improvement in business process management suggested by quality guru Edward Deming. Later it renamed as Deming wheel. PDCA stands for- Plan, Do, Check, Act.

PLAN
Establish the objectives and processes necessary to deliver results in accordance with the expected output
DO
Implement the plan, execute the process, make the product. Collect data for charting and analysis
CHECK
Study the actual results and compare against the expected results to ascertain any differences
ACT
Request corrective actions on significant differences between actual and planned results. Analyze the differences to determine their root causes

Planning is an important component of every action. The success or the failure depends on the effectiveness of the planning. Once the process of doing is completed then it has to be checked whether what has been done in accordance with the plan. After checking, the fourth component act is taken up.
