network (LAN) is a group of computers and associated devices that share a
common communications line or wireless link. Range starts from 100 Mbps.
Upper limit-10 km, Lower limit-1 km.
Used in single room, campus etc.
CAMPUS AREA NETWORK-CAN
CAN is a
network of multiple interconnected LAN, in a limited geographical area.
METROPOLITAN
AREA NETWORK-MAN
The metropolitan area network (MAN) is designed to extend over an entire city. A MAN uses distributed queue dual bus. Range: Within 100 km (a city).
WIDE AREA
NETWORK-WAN
Network that provides long distance transmission of data, voice, image and video
information over large
geographical areas that may comprise
a country, a continent. Range: Beyond 100 km.
